There is a large number of "tasks" given to the player. Initially these serve mostly as a way to get to know how the game works, later on they turn into "ever more, ever bigger" incentives to keep improving. The following is an incomplete list of these tasks. An attempt has been made to group them into chains, where fulfilling one task unlocks the next, but this may be imperfect.
